Student Union Board

Mission Statement
We will make every effort to create a student-centered environment that promotes creativity, cooperation, civic responsibility and the pursuit of higher learning in an atmosphere which embraces diversity, promotes critical thinking and challenges individual growth and development.

Philosophy
Christopher Newport University as an institution of liberal learning invites and advocates learning across the campus to include those experiences that happen outside of the classroom. The student union is such a place where learning can and should occur through the sponsorship and promotion of social, education, spiritual and cultural programming. Such student-centered initiatives will be cooperative and collaborative efforts between and among CNU and the community and will serve to support socialization, mutual respect and unity. We consider student needs to be a very high priority and will make every effort to solicit student opinion on all decisions that impact them.

Functions of the Student Union Board
The Board's initial purpose is to serve as an advisory board during the transition into the new student union. Upon completion of the transition, the board may perform the following functions, but are not limited to such:

• During the initial transition period of the student union, the board will provide student feedback, address student concerns and make recommendations to the Student Union management and the office of Student Activities on student life issues.
• The board will make recommendations on office and showcase allocation
• The board will make recommendations on posting and scheduling issues.
• The board will offer insights on student organization issues.
