GREEK LIFE AT CNU

Christopher Newport University is proud of our 14 recognized fraternities and sororities. These values-based organizations have created a foundation of brotherhood/sisterhood, scholarship, community service/philanthropy, and character within the CNU community. Approximately 12% of our undergraduate population is a member of a fraternity or a sorority and that number is steadily growing. Our Greek students are active in numerous leadership roles across campus and donate their time and talents to assist those in need locally, regionally, and nationally through their community service and philanthropy efforts.

Each fraternity and sorority at CNU is unique but all offer members a connection with other CNU students and alumni through their brotherhood and sisterhood that continues past the college undergraduate experience. CNU chapters strive for academic excellence while developing leaders along the way.

Any undergraduate member of the CNU community wishing to pursue membership in a values-based fraternity or sorority must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate and possess a 2.4 cumulative grade point average and have earned a minimum of 12 credit hours from an institution of higher education post-completion of a high school degree.

Greek Life at CNU is student-run with the support of a full-time professional in the Office of Student Activities. Our 6 recognized North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) fraternities are governed by the Interfraternity Council (IFC). The 3 recognized National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) chapters are governed by the local CNU NPHC governing body. Lastly, the 5 recognized National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) chapters are governed by the College Panhellenic. All three of these councils have offices located in the Office of Student Activities on the third floor of the David Student Union.
