The Dean of Students' Office at Christopher Newport University oversees and manages the Student Affairs team within the Division of Student Services. This staff includes: The Office of Counseling Services, Residence Life, Student Activities, Orientation, Multicultural Affairs, Health and Wellness Services and the Center for Honor Enrichment and Community Standards. The Vice President for Student Services, the Assistant to the Dean of Students and their staff work to promote and facilitate student development by bringing to life the lessons of the classroom.
In addition to the services and programs outlined below, students may also bring personal and informational concerns for review and consideration to the Dean of Students Office.

SPARC: Student Prospering in Academic and Residential Communities

SPARC is a collaborative initiative between the Office of Student Affairs and the Academic Advising Center. It was created in the summer of 2008 in order to further develop a campus culture that promotes student success inside and outside of the classroom. SPARC employs a marketing campaign that features the taglines, "Just Think" and "Just Ask", as well as student success workshops and resources.

Higher Education Mentoring Program
The Student Affairs staff at Christopher Newport University will be accepting applications for their Higher Education Mentor Program (HEMP). This program is designed to create meaningful experiences and relationships for students considering a career in higher education. Applicants are considered for placement in an internship experience that matches their interests and advances their knowledge of the field. They are also assigned a mentor to guide them and assist them in the process of selecting and applying to graduate school.
The internship requires 10 flexible hours per week until April 2009.

Service Excellence Award
In an effort to recognize and reward good customer service the Division of Student Services at Christopher Newport University provides the Service Excellence Award (SEA). The SEA allows colleagues within the division the opportunity to recognize the work and service of their peers. All members of the Division are encouraged to submit nominations. Those submitting nominations are eligible for small incentive gifts distributed each semester. The Service Excellence Award will be given three times a year. Nominations will be reviewed by the Customer Service Team. Employees can only receive the SEA once per academic year, but recognition as a nominee has no limit. The recipient of the Service Excellence Award will receive an SEA desk plaque; nominees will receive a certificate of recognition. On an annual basis one nominee will be recognized as the SEA Recipient of the Year. The award for such recognition will be determined annually by the Customer Service Team. To nominate a colleague you are encouraged to complete this form and then click submit. For full consideration, all fields must be completed and submissions must be received via email. A confirmation of receipt will be sent to you once the submission has been confirmed as complete and accurate. Submissions will be reviewed three times per year - the first week of December, April and August. Deadlines for consideration are as follows: November 15, March 15 and July 15.
