Training at the Center for Counseling, Coaching, & Consulting

The Office of Counseling Services works collaboratively with graduate students from other local educational institutions in that we offer training for graduate-level externship and internship candidates at our Office. The OCS Training Program is intended to assist counselors-in-training who are interested in working professionally within a university context upon the completion of their terminal degree.

Based upon a developmental model, the training at the Office of Counseling Services emphasizes assessment of professional skills and competencies, practice in developing beginning and advanced counseling skills, exposure to a variety of theoretical and practice approaches, and ultimately the development not only of our students but also of that of the counselor as well. Our staff values the contribution and diversity that our interns provide to our office and the CNU community. We are pleased to contribute to the professional development of those interested in becoming professionals who will work within a university community.

The training experience has been designed with an awareness of the various graduate programs that train counselors. However, if you have any questions about whether the activities of our training program meet the particular needs of your program, please feel free to have your institution's Training Director contact our training coordinator to help determine if you might participate in our training program. Our training experience is designed to be flexible enough to allow an extern or internship student the opportunity to participate in the various opportunities that our Office engaged in as professional staff. Trainees work with their on-site supervisor to establish the specific goals and professional development opportunities that best suit both the individual trainee and the needs of the Office.
