What to do....

If you have been sexually assaulted

1. Get to a safe place. Call 911 or University Police at 757.594.7053 if you need assistance or want to report the assault.
2. Get medical attention as soon as possible. Even if you don't think you've been injured, it's important to get a physical exam. Physical evidence can also be collected now in case you decide to prosecute later.
3. Call The Center for Sexual Assault at 757.838.1829 to speak with a volunteer support worker. Call the CNU Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at 757.594.7047 for information and support. All contacts are confidential.
4. Tell someone! Don't isolate yourself, don't blame yourself and don't try to ignore it.

If someone you know has been sexually assaulted

• Help him/her get medical attention or call the police, The Center for Sexual Assault, or CNU's Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at 757.594.7047 .
• File an anonymous report with the Coordinator.
• Allow him/her to make his/her own decisions in order to regain a sense of control.
• Be supportive and listen without judging. Let him/her decide what he/she feels comfortable sharing with you.
• Understand that the feelings experienced by a sexual assault survivor do not go away after a short period of time.

Sexual Assault Services Coordinator

Located in the Office Counseling Services, the Coordinator provides confidential services to survivors including counseling and assistance in understanding, evaluating, and choosing among the services available at CNU and in the community. The Coordinator also provides programs designed to increase awareness and strengthen prevention through education.
